Green Lane’s Traffic

The Hills Hopper Bus Struggles Past a Broken Down Car in Green Lane

There has been a considerable increase in the problems due to excess traffic and vehicle speeds experienced by residents of Green Lane over the past twelve months.  I’ve received a very detailed letter from one resident who lists many items of considerable concern – all based on personal experience.  There are also a lot of anecdotes in circulation about the upsetting experiences of other parishioners in respect of Green Lane’s traffic.  For the second year running, the Malvern Hills Hopper bus is using Green Lane as part of its official route, even though the lane has a blue sign saying “unsuitable for heavy goods vehicles”.  Traffic attributable to the Showground is at its usual high levels and people seem utterly undeterred by the large yellow road signs “No Access for Showground traffic” which are placed at either end of the lane for the big shows such as the Garden Show and the recent Three Counties Show.

What is to be done?  The Green Lane Working Group (of Parish Councillors and the Clerk to the Parish Council) is  awaiting a date for a site meeting in Green Lane between the Police, the bus company (and a Hills Hopper bus) Worcestershire Highways (who commission the Hills Hopper service) and other official parties.  Once the site meeting has taken place, the Green Lane Working Group will call a Public Meeting of all interested persons to discuss the issues relating to traffic in Green Lane and to identify some achievable solutions.  The details of the Public Meeting will be notified on the Parish Council notice boards and the new Parish Council Website.

What can you do in the meantime?   Please put your personal experiences with Green Lane’s traffic down in writing and send the letter to me, Helen Burrage.  The more written evidence we have of traffic problems, the better.  I look forward to hearing from you.
